This is a portrait of one of my favorite actresses, Barbara Steele. It's from an Italian horror movie called La Machera del Demonio, Mask of the Demon directed by Mario Bava. For American release, this black and white classic was renamed Black Sunday. I first saw this movie when I was 10 or 11 and was drawn to the art design, lighting and mood, though at the time, I just liked the way it looked, as well as the story. The first 15 minutes or so will tell you why there are holes in her face.
